JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Several people lined up Wednesday morning to shop at a Winn-Dixie in Brentwood.
The new grocery store is replacing the Publix that was located at Gateway Town Center before closing in December.
The store will give families in the food desert neighborhood a new place to get fresh fruits and vegetables.
The first 500 people that arrived at the store received a free gift card valued between $5 and $500, along with a reusable tote bag.
Lots of customers tell me they are excited to get a grocery store that offers fresh and healthy food in an area known as a food desert @ActionNewsJax @WOKVNews pic.twitter.com/z0byfLk06m
