JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Family said 19-year-old Larry Tould had his whole life ahead of him, but it was cut short in a senseless shooting.
Loved ones confirmed Tould was shot and killed on Ken Knight Drive on Jan. 26.
No arrests have been made.
New details emerged Monday about the deadly shooting.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Director Mike Bruno said the teen’s death stemmed from a fight between two high school girls that on social media that escalated.
“The conflict continued to brew throughout the day to the point of where a fight was coordinated,” Bruno said. “Shortly after 6 p.m., both groups arrived at [the] Ken Knight area location and basically began fighting.”
Bruno said more than 100 people showed up to watch the fight when someone in the crowd opened fire.
“People started scrambling,” Bruno said. “It was sheer chaos.”
JSO said investigators are reviewing hours of video on social media and interviewing witnesses. The sheriff’s office is turning to the community for help in finding the shooter.
Bruno noted sometimes people are reluctant to cooperate with police or are worried about retaliation.
“I have to believe that at least one person that attended the fight on Ken Knight Drive is responsible enough to be able to provide us with the information that we need,” Bruno said.
AJ Jordan with MAD DADS Jacksonville said he’s been in contact with the teen’s mother. “She’s still devastated,” Jordan said. “She just wants answers.”
Jordan said someone who was in the crowd that night knows something that could help police. To bring the killer or killers to justice, Jordan said the community needs to crack the code of silence.
“We can’t keep continuing to enable these murderers to stay on our streets,” Jordan said. “We have to stand up, speak up and turn them in.”
