JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Memorial Day Weekend is well underway, and Floridians are hitting the roads as many of them head home from a long weekend.
Gas Buddy reports gas prices are at the highest since 2014. Though the Colonial Pipeline’s recent hacking didn’t affect Florida all that much, gas prices did go up slightly due to panic buying.
Action News Jax talked with the Dunn family this Memorial Day Weekend. They traveled from Orlando to South Carolina to visit their daughter.

They say they don’t care about gas prices; they’re just excited to travel again -- which is something they hadn’t done in a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
”I don’t even think about that [gas prices] anymore, I’m just happy to be out,” Debbie Dunn said.
AAA reports the current national average is $3.046 a gallon. This time last year, it was $1.976 a gallon. In Florida, the current average is $2.863 a gallon, compared to this time last year at $1.884 a gallon.
