JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 9:22 a.m. Update: Police say the person at the center of a SWAT situation at the Courtney Manor Apartments has been taken into custody without incident.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on social media:
“The barricaded subject at Courtney Manor Apartments has been taken into custody without incident. There continues to be a law enforcement presence in the area as we continue to investigate. Those who live in/near this community are able to resume normal activities.”
The baby that was reportedly being held hostage in the apartment is safe, according to JSO.
Original Story:
A heavy police and SWAT presence remains at the Courtney Manor Apartments on Collins Road on Jacksonville’s Westside. Neighbors said the situation began to unfold at around 8 p.m. Sunday.
A woman told Action News Jax that her niece’s 8-month-old baby is being held hostage in an apartment. She said it’s a domestic situation between her niece and the baby’s father. The woman said the man let her niece go but barricaded himself inside an apartment with the baby. Action News Jax is working to confirm that information with police.
On Monday morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told students and parents who live at the complex to “shelter in place” until the incident involving a “barricaded subject” is resolved.
Action News Jax reporter Alicia Tarancon spoke with some neighbors who have been parked outside the complex for hours. They are allowed to walk inside the complex but not very far because of safety concerns.
This is a developing story. Watch Action News Jax for live updates.
As a result of police activity due to a barricaded subject, #JSO is asking for parents and students in the Courtney Manor Apartment Community (5600 Collins Road) to shelter in place at this time. As soon as this incident is brought to closure, we will advise further. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/0DKaBv6sR7

Neighbors tell me they cannot get past building three. There’s several buildings past that. More tactical equipment has also arrived on scene. @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/nHHKPT5uu9
