Jack-o'-lantern found on the head of Andrew Jackson statue in downtown Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Someone appeared to be getting in the Halloween spirit in downtown Jacksonville on Monday, as a jack-o'-lantern was found on the head of the statue of President Andrew Jackson.

A viewer shared a photo of the “costume” with Action News Jax. The statue was also dressed up with a cape.

The statue was vandalized twice during the summer, once in June and once in July.

The statue sits at the end of Laura Street near Independent Drive, directly in front of the former Jacksonville Landing, which is currently a green space.

Jackson also has a school named after him in Jacksonville -- Andrew Jackson High School of Advanced Technology on North Main Street.

Jackson was Florida’s first governor under the United States flag in 1821 and served as the seventh president of the U.S. from 1829 to 1837.
