Jacksonville man says woman with hammer attacked him in San Marco

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man tells Action News Jax he was attacked by a woman with a hammer in San Marco on Tuesday night. He asked not to be identified for his protection.

The man says he suffered a skull injury, a separated shoulder and needed seven stitches.

He tells Action News Jax he and his girlfriend were walking their dog on Belote Place when a car sped toward them.

He says he yelled at the car to slow down. He went on to say the car then stopped and began reversing toward them.

He told Action News Jax that he threw a Yeti cup at the car as it reversed toward him and his girlfriend. That’s when he says the driver got out, attacked him with a hammer and called him a racist.

The man tells Action News Jax he only said “slow down.”

Action News Jax obtained a video appearing to show the immediate aftermath of the incident.

After pausing the video, we spotted what appears to be a hammer in the driver’s hand.

Action News Jax is blurring the faces of the driver and passenger who appeared on video, as we work to learn from JSO whether they’ve been charged with a crime.

Neighbors like Joshua Rupp tell us they heard loud screams and ran to the scene.

”The guy was a little dazed. He definitely had a concussion. There were a lot of people here helping him out,” said Rupp. “… He was definitely bleeding all over the place.”

Rupp says people speeding on Belote is concerning for neighbors.

”I tell people to slow down all the time! I could have been that guy getting my head smashed in,” said Rupp.

A neighbor told Action News Jax they called police to the scene after the attack.

The victim says he’s filed a police report. He tells Action News Jax he provided investigators a license plate number, but says he was told by police the tag came back as “fake.”

Action News Jax reached out to JSO for a copy of the report and requested comment on the investigation.

We’ll be sure to update you with JSO’s response.
