Jacksonville nonprofit helps moms in need

Jacksonville, FL — Shavon Botsford spends every Saturday at the Baby Luv headquarters in Ortega Farms handing out supplies to moms in need.

“I truly love all my clients,” she said. “I try to be on a first-name basis with them.”

Botsford’s dedication to the operation goes back six years when she was a client herself.

“After the birth of our first child, we found ourselves in food insecurity as well because my husband is a teacher as well as a disabled veteran,” she said.

Botsford then became a volunteer and was later promoted to director of the program. She said, “I just saw the beauty in it.”

It operates like a drive-thru. Families pull up and they let volunteers know what they need, whether it’s diapers, baby formula, or even a car seat. They can pick it up on the same day no questions asked.

The nonprofit saw 200 new clients in June and handed out 20,000 diapers. Botsford said, “Many people have lost their jobs and otherwise are now very much financially insecure due to COVID-19.″

That’s why she’s asking the community to help any way they can, whether it’s a donation or volunteering. Click here for more information.
