Jacksonville police investigate several shootings during violent weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, there have been six shootings in Jacksonville.

There were four separate shootings reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Sunday alone.

The first of Sunday’s shootings happened in the 1600 block of Art Museum Drive around 1 a.m. An unknown individual approached two men, and a dispute broke out that ended in gunfire, police say.

The two victims, who have not been identified, checked themselves into the hospital with gunshot wounds. They are expected to recover.

Another shooting was reported in the 9400 block of San Jose Boulevard just before 4 a.m.

According to JSO, a man confronted an auto burglary suspect who shot the man multiple times before fleeing on foot. The man was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Action News Jax spoke with the man, Charles Wolfla, who says he was walking his dog when he came across the suspect.

“He was busting a window out so I stood back a little bit... and he came out with a pistol and just 8 or 10 times at me,” Wolfla said.

Police believe the suspect is responsible for breaking into multiple vehicles at a Mandarin apartment complex. He is still at large.

In the 1400 block of Seawolf Trail North, police responded to a shooting that critically injured a teenager early Sunday morning.

The victim, who has not been identified, was transported to the hospital by private conveyance, police say.

The latest shooting happened around 6 a.m. at 1040 Golfair Blvd. An investigation revealed that a woman was shot in the wrist while trying to break up a dispute between two men.

Both men were apprehended at the scene.

The day before, there were two reported shootings.

A 14-year-old girl was shot after an altercation broke out between unknown individuals in the 5000 block of Cleveland Road around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the 14-year-old was an innocent bystander. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She has not been identified.

Police are still looking for the suspects.

A separate shooting was reported in the 1100 block of Grothe Street on Saturday. Police responded around 9 p.m. to a shot spotter call.

At the same time, police were notified that the victim, an unidentified adult male in his 30s, checked himself into the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs.

Later, police found multiple shell casings in the 1100 block of Hart Street.

The man is expected to recover. The suspect is unknown.
