Man fatally shoots another man with rifle ‘within seconds’ of Jacksonville police arriving on scene

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead and another man is in custody after a Monday afternoon shooting in Arlington.

Police responded to the 1200 block of Arlington Road, which is near Rogero Road, during the 1 p.m. hour.

When police arrived, they saw a man pointing a rifle at another man outside. Before they could intervene, the man holding the rifle fired at the other man.

Police said the man with the gun fired multiple rounds “within seconds” of officers arriving, striking the other man and a nearby business.

The man who was shot was taken to the hospital and later died.

The suspect ran away, but was found by police a short time later and taken into custody.

Police later found cars and other businesses had been hit by gunfire.

The relationship between the two men is not known at this time.
