JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One man was shot on I-295 at Merrill Road after a road rage incident turned violent on Wednesday. Police encourage residents to remain inside their homes as they search for the suspect who got away.
Police responded to the incident around 5 p.m. and found the victim, a white male in his 30s, with one gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he is expected to recover.
After speaking with witnesses, police believe a road rage incident led to the shooting. The suspect and the victim also crashed their vehicles into each other.

The suspect, a Black male in his late 20s or early 30s, fled the scene on foot, and police are actively searching for him. Police say that, although there is no indication that anyone is in any danger, residents should still take caution and shelter in place.

“A firearm is a permanent solution to a temporary problem,” Lieutenant McCormick with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. “Don’t take matters into your own hands.”
