Man with butcher knife threatened to kill people, is now in Jacksonville police custody, sources say

A man armed with a butcher knife was taken into custody Monday afternoon after he threatened to kill people, sources tell Action News Jax.

Police roped off part of the Deerwood Village shopping center near Baymeadows Road and Southside Boulevard after being called to a report of a suspicious person.

Only Action News Jax obtained video of officers with their guns drawn on the suspect right before he was handcuffed.

It happened around 2 p.m. at the State Farm on Old Baymeadows Road.

The man had the doors of the business locked, sources said, but as officers were approaching, the man walked out and gave himself up.

People at nearby businesses had to stay inside as this all unfolded.
