JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Hundreds of seniors in Northeast Florida got a nice, hot meal for the holiday. It’s all thanks to the Jewish community, whose volunteers teamed up with Meals on Wheels and met at Congregation Ahavath Chesed in San Jose Friday morning.

Temple members began baking meals and sweets at 7:30 in the morning, then packaged them up for families that volunteered to deliver them to seniors throughout Duval and Clay counties. In total, 350 meals were delivered Friday.
“There’s nothing better than seeing the smiles on those people’s faces, because they really need stuff like this, and the community can help give back,” said Joey Morgenthal, whose family has been delivering meals for as long as he can remember.
On Friday, his family distributed 14 plates.
“From the Jewish Community, aww that’s nice,” one elderly woman said as volunteer Rubin Saraga gave her a hot meal.
Saraga and his mom, Frieda, have been delivering meals for years. Giving back is their way to remember how fortunate they are.
“Every person should see what it’s like to have, to not have, and it’s just very, very gratifying,” Rubin Saraga said.
The duo delivered six meals to seniors.

“It feels great, it’s what should be done all the time. It’s a shame that it’s only done one time out of the year,” Frieda Saraga added.
