JIA among hundreds of airports across the country that could see flight cuts

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Airlines at Jacksonville International airport (JIA) could cut flights from more than 500-600 weekly flights to 30 flights per week total for all airlines.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a final order on the service obligations for air carriers to receive financial relief through CARES Act. It requires that air carriers receiving financial assistance under the CARES Act must maintain minimum air services on a nationwide basis, with some exceptions.

  • Carriers with greater than 10% seat share of the domestic market in CY 2019 – AA, DL, WN & UA
  • Points with 25+ weekly flights – minimum 5 weekly flights
  • Points with 5-25 weekly flights – minimum 3 weekly flights
  • Points with less than 5 weekly flights – minimum 1 weekly flight
  • Carriers with less than 10% share of the domestic market in CY 2019 – all other carriers
  • Points with 5+ weekly flights – minimum 3 weekly flights
  • Points with less than 5 weekly flights – minimum 1 weekly flight

TSA screened 97,130 travelers April 7, compared to more than two million last year – a 95% decline
