JSO: 1 dead, 1 seriously injured after wrong way crash in Bartram Park

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a deadly crash on Old St. Augustine Road early Tuesday morning.

According to detectives, at approximately 1 a.m., a Chevrolet Trailblazer was headed eastbound on Old St. Augustine Road. At the same time, a black Mercedes was headed westbound in the eastbound lanes. The two cars collided head-on, killing the Trailblazer driver and seriously injuring the Mercedes driver.

The Mercedes caught fire after the crash. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded and extinguished the fire.

No one else was injured, and no one else was involved in the crash.

This marks the 65th traffic death in Duval County this year. JSO is currently working to determine if alcohol played a factor in the crash.

The eastbound lanes of Old St. Augustine Road were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
