JSO investigating suspicious death at Ciel Luxury Apartments on the Southside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some Southside residents are second guessing their living situation after seeing police on their street twice in one week.

“This is the second incident in two days and it’s very alarming knowing that it’s in a safe neighborhood that we’re in in Jacksonville,” southside resident Tanner Campbell said.

Action News Jax first told you about a deadly stabbing at Tapestry Park on Thursday.

Police found themselves in the area once again Sunday morning after deputies were called to Ciel Luxury Apartments for a reported traffic fatality.

JSO said deputies found an unresponsive man in the parking lot.

He later died at the hospital.

It was a doctor there who led deputies to change their initial investigation.

“At the hospital, the attending physician provided information to law enforcement that there was some trauma to the victim’s body that would indicate his injuries were not consistent with a traffic accident,” JSO Sergeant Edwin Cayenne said.

Right now, JSO cannot confirm the extent of the man’s injuries.

“There was a report of gunshots that were fired at the scene, but the trauma to the body will be pending the autopsy for the cause of death,” Sergeant Cayenne said.

JSO said there are no suspects at this time. Investigators also said the only crime scene right now is in the parking lot at Ciel.

The uncertainty around the victim’s death is worrisome for Tanner Campbell who lives across the street.

“I just hope that we can get to the bottom of this and be more secured in this area,” Campbell said.

He said he will be taking more precautions in and out of his apartment from now on.

Moving forward, JSO is looking to gather video surveillance and identify the victim.
