JSO: Jacksonville man yells at driver ‘about trying to rape his girlfriend,’ and begins shooting

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — A Jacksonville man armed with a stolen gun and riding on a dirt bike was arrested after police said he pulled up to a driver and began shooting at him.

The incident happened on July 16, at approximately 9:37 p.m., at the intersection of Lone Star Road and Mill Creek Road, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, who was on the phone at the time, told JSO he was driving his black Ford Fusion near his home when Jerome Mabry, 25, approached him on a dirt bike. Mabry reportedly got off the bike and began yelling at the victim “about trying to rape his girlfriend.” The victim told police he was confused about Mabry’s statement and yelled back at him, before driving off.

Mabry then began chasing the victim down residential streets, according to the report.

The victim stopped at the corner store CJ’Z Food Mart to speak with nearby officers and Mabry followed. The victim told the officers what happened and the person he was on the phone with still also confirmed to police what happened. Mabry was then arrested without incident.

The report did not state whether the victim had been hurt by gunfire.

The gun Mabry had in his possession was reported stolen July 18, 2020 in Baker County, JSO stated.

He faces the following charges: attempted murder, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted U.S. felon and carrying a concealed weapon.
