JSO officer arrested on charges of aggravated battery for incident in March

JACKSONVILLE, Fla, — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested 5-year officer Matthew Alimurung on charges of 2nd-degree felony aggravated battery and public servant falsifying document.

Police say Alimurung hit a suspect in the face/head area with a taser after a vehicle pursuit. JSO says that is outside of their policy.

JSO says the incident happened back in March 2020.

He is charged with public servant falsifying documents for making false accusations in the documentation in this incident. JSO officers are supposed to document every use of force in an incident.

JSO says his report in reference to the incident is contradicted by body camera footage.

Alimurung has resigned from his position. He is in custody at the Jacksonville jail.

This is the 11th arrest of a JSO employee in 2020.
