JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Juneteenth, otherwise known as Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, or Jubilee Day, celebrates the freedom of enslaved African Americans in America.
The holiday is celebrated annually in the United States and is on the anniversary of the Union Army’s proclamation of freedom from slavery in Texas, June 19, 1865.
There will be festivities all around the country this weekend to honor the 156th year of freedom from slavery.
To help you and your family celebrate Black Independence Day, we’ve compiled a list of events happening in the Jacksonville area below.
Juneteenth Events on Saturday, June 19
United Era’s Juneteenth Festival

Dr. MLK Foundation Inc., Freedom Walk Parade & Juneteenth Festival
- The Ritz Theatre - 829 N. Davis St.
- The parade starts at 8 a.m. The Festival begins after the parade at Ritz Theatre.
