JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The community gathered Thursday, Feb. 20 to celebrate the life of former Jacksonville Mayor Jake Godbold.
Godbold served as Jacksonville’s mayor from 1978 to 1987. He worked to convert the empty Union Station on the western fringe of downtown into a convention center, helping gain City Council approval in 1982, according to the City of Jacksonville.
Action News Jax reported when Godbold died Jan. 23 at the age of 86.
His memorial service was held at the Prime F. Osborn III Center in downtown Jacksonville.
