Report gives new details about man accused of trying to lure Jacksonville Girls Scouts to his SUV

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An incident report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is providing new information about a man accused of trying to lure girls selling Girl Scout cookies to his SUV.

A JSO officer was dispatched to the Holiday Hill Baptist Church in Grove Park, where the incident happened, regarding a suspicious person. Two women told police that a man approached the booth where girls were selling Girl Scout cookies.

Both women said the man came to the booth to buy cookies. The man told them he only had four dollars on him and asked if one of the girls could walk with him to get another dollar from his vehicle, the report stated.

Both women declined.

The report says one of the women told police that the troop leader walked with the man to his vehicle “which was parked several streets from the booth” and took a picture of his vehicle, a green Mitsubishi Montero.

The other woman was able to grab his license plate number and described him as an older Black man with a slender build who may have been 5 feet and 10 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a red shirt with blue jeans and a baseball cap.

Using the tag number she provided, JSO were able to find the last known address. The homeowner told police that the man doesn’t live there and had no information about where he currently lives or a phone number to contact him.

Another search revealed an address in Conyers, Georgia.

“Furthermore, at no time did anyone observe the male attempt to grab or harm any children,” JSO said in the report.
