JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville City Council is looking to help tackle crime in the form of a new program called “Jacksonville Rise Up.”
On Monday, Jacksonville City Council President Sam Newby announced $336,000 will go to small nonprofits in Jacksonville and he believes it will be a game changer.

“This is for the small nonprofits to help stop crime,” Jacksonville City Council president Sam Newby said. “This can help them have funds to help with programs to help the community.”
The application window opens June 13 and closes June 27 at 2 p.m.
There is a set amount of $9,000 dollars each nonprofit can receive.

Haraka Craswell, with Solid Women’s Speaking, said she plans on applying for the funding and said there are a lot of things she can do with the money.
“So many crimes in the area and I do work with moms who have lost their kids to gun violence. So for me, it’s very important where we can have funding to help these moms,” Craswell said.
Craswell said these funds can also help the youth in Jacksonville.

“The funding for our kids are so important. That way they have after-school activities, they have sports activities,” Craswell said.
She said without this funding, it could be tough.
“We have to have this funding just to get the training the knowledge they need to help them deal with things,” Craswell said.
