The Jacksonville Transportation Authority announced the death of a man who made history by integrating the city’s bus system.
Algernon Roundtree was one of the first two Black bus drivers in the Jacksonville area, getting his start in 1960 with the Jacksonville Coach Company and eventually JTA.

He joined JTA one year after he served in the U.S. Air Force.
Prior to that, he attended the New Stanton Senior High School in Jacksonville.
Roundtree died Monday.
