Pastor resigns amid lawsuit with Celebration Church

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Pastor Stovall Weems, one of the founders of Celebration Church, has resigned. This comes after Stovall filed a lawsuit against the church this year for injunctive relief.

“This letter is to inform you that I am resigning from my positions as Senior Pastor, President and Chief Executive Officer, Chair and member of the Board of Trustees, and Registered Agent of CCJ — the church I founded and poured my life into,” Pastor Stovall wrote on Instagram.

Pastor Stovall and his wife, Kerri Weems, founded the Jacksonville church in 1998. Since then, the church has grown into a global church with nearly 12,000 members.

“My resignation from CCJ does not and will not affect any claims that have or may be filed by me or Kerri Weems against CCJ trustees and officers or against any individuals or organizations associated with what I believe to be the illegal seizure of the institution and its resources,” Pastor Stovall stated on Instagram.

The lawsuit requested Pastor Stovall and Kerri Weems be restored to the status quo, and for any and all other relief that the Court deemed fair and just.

Celebration Church also filed a Motion to Dismiss the lawsuit. Read both below.
