JACKSONVILLE, Fl. — Friday, hundreds of city leaders and community members gathered at the Prime Osborn Convention center for the city of Jacksonville’s 33rd annual breakfast honoring Martin Luther King, Junior.
Three Jacksonville students were honored as winners of the MLK Live the Dream essay contest and each read their essay onstage.
Action News Jax spoke with each of the winners about their essays.

Central Riverside 5th grader Benjamin Chau said, “When I heard him say no one can rain on your dreams I knew that was relatable because some people will try very hard just to stop you from doing your dreams but you have to ignore that and keep going.”
Taiwo Sogbesan, a senior at Bolles told Action News Jax, “Dr. Martin Luther King is one of the reasons I’m able to go to such a good school with so many different kinds of people.”
LaVilla School of the Arts 8th grader Niveah Glover explained, “My mom always says everybody has a seat at our table so I take that everywhere I go.”
Action News Jax Anchor Tennika Hughes co-emceed the event.
She introduced keynote speaker Coach Carter.
Carter was the inspiration for the 2005 movie starring Samuel L Jackson.
He encouraged others to continue the work of Dr.King.
The city is set to honor MLK with a parade on Monday.
