JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The St. Johns Town Center, the Avenues Mall, and the St. Augustine Premium Outlets are among many shopping plazas that will reopen on Monday, May 4, according to Simon Property’s website.
Simon Property Group is opening several shopping centers in 21 states Friday through May 16. Some of Florida’s shopping centers will be open starting Monday.
On their website, Simon Property Group wrote out their safety protocols to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Some of those protocols include preemptive employee screening, employees maintaining social distancing and wearing PPE, and limiting the amount of people inside. Play area, drinking fountains, stroller stations will be closed. Food court seating will be limited and spaced.

The protocols also list that every night their properties will be sanitized and disinfected. This is in addition to cleaning and sanitizing throughout the day.
To help keep shoppers safe, they are encouraging for people to take temperatures before coming and to wear masks and sanitize their hands while shopping. Shoppers will have access to sanitizing stations throughout the property and free temperature testing via infrared thermometers.
On Wednesday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced his plan for phase one of re-opening Florida. Restaurants and retail stores can only operate at 25 percent indoor capacity, according to DeSantis’ guidelines. Restaurants can offer outdoor seating, but there has to be a 6-foot space between tables.
