Dozen of police vehicles responded early this morning to the Southside Villas complex on Palm Breeze Road. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office called in its S.W.A.T. mobile command center and a wide perimeter was sanctioned off.
According to one source, there were three people inside the apartment and described hearing what they believed to be a series of gunshots. An eyewitness tells me a woman came out of the apartment and also heard what sounded like a gunshot.
Action News Jax has learned JSO went to the complex this morning to serve a warrant. When the man police were there to arrest spotted officers, he ran back inside and locked himself in an apartment with another person. Eventually, officers ended up having to take the hinges off the door to get him out.
Police are still investigating whether the person inside with the suspect was a hostage. No one was hurt.
