State Attorney’s office release 911 calls, witness interviews in April 2019 deadly road rage crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The State Attorney’s office released 911 calls and witness interviews in the deadly car crash two years ago, April 11, 2019, that FHP said was caused by road rage.

The chase started from the Buckman Bridge to San Jose Blvd., back onto the Buckman, to U.S. Highway-17, and ended with a crash on Roosevelt Blvd. Ana Jimenez is charged with second-degree murder, vehicular homicide, and reckless driving.

In the released 911 calls, one is from Jimenez. You can hear her screaming that someone hit her, you can also hear tires screeching multiple times.

The other driver was James Robinson, who ended up veering off the road into oncoming traffic and was pronounced dead at the scene.

911 call - Operator: “911 what’s your emergency?”

911 call - Jimenez: “Hi, yes, someone just hit me.”

That was just the beginning of a 13-minute 911 call from Jimenez, on April 11, 2019. She told police someone in a gray Chevrolet Suburban hit her white Honda Civic and she was hurt.

911 call - Operator: “If you would like rescue, don’t chase after him, don’t follow him, okay?”

According to the investigative report, the driver of the suburban, James Robinson hit the back of her car and didn’t stop.

911 call - Jimenez: “I’m following him now, he didn’t stop. He hit me in the middle of the road.”

Jimenez then followed Robinson and they got off San Jose Blvd where she tried blocking him in a nearby parking lot. After being told to stop following him multiple times by the operator, the report says she continued to do so back onto the Buckman bridge. Multiple witnesses in the report say she passed drivers going over 100 mph as she chased him, cut him off, switched lanes, and swerved into him against the barrier wall.

A witness who saw the chase and crash unfold spoke with Action News Jax.

“She hit him, twice, pit maneuver,” Edward Raber said. “Deliberately trying to knock him off the road, cause a wreck.”

As the two drivers made their way to U.S. Highway-17, another witness in the report says the two vehicles continued to collide with each other. The report says Robinson eventually lost control as he tried changing lanes, veering off the road into oncoming traffic.

911 call - Jimenez: “He just crashed, he just crashed!”

Raber says Jimenez wasn’t hurt.

“She wasn’t hurt, she’s running around screaming, ‘he tried to kill me he tried to kill me,’” he said. “She was running around before the state trooper got there, when he got there, she fell down on the ground and said ‘oh I’m hurt, ‘oh I’m hurt,’ so they would take her away.”

Investigators have said 6 total cars were involved, but the other drivers and passengers survived.
