Family and friends come together to remember teen killed outside Westside gas station

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Loved ones came together Sunday night to remember Teneria McClendon. They held a vigil outside the Wawa on Wilson Boulevard, where the 16-year-old girl was shot and killed.

McClendon’s aunt, Donna Ghant said, “She was a good girl, no trouble.” She said McClendon had dreams of becoming a nurse.

“She was in advanced classes at school. She was quiet. And when you saw her you saw her cousins with her,” Ghant said.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, McClendon was killed Saturday night after a fight inside the gas station. They said the fight continued in the parking lot. That was when someone fired a shot and killed the teenager.

Police say those involved were detained. Her family members said they want justice. “Right now, the family just wants justice and privacy, Ghant said.”

MClendon’s family created a GoFundme for anyone who would like to support them during this difficult time.

Police ask if anyone has any additional information to call 904-630-0500 or email jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org.
