JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man wearing a gas mask and gloves emerges from the woods and was caught on surveillance cameras leaving a threatening note on the back door of the Duval County Democratic Party headquarters on Saturday.
Daniel Henry, the chair of the Duval County Democratic Party in Jacksonville, Florida, confirmed the incident to Action News Jax.
The note, which was printed on a copy of a webpage from the party’s site showing the names and faces of its officers, said “We want blood. You lost the election. Redress our grievances now or we will be back later.”
Henry said the note is concerning to himself and the group’s elected officers, who are all volunteers.
“Seeing him come through the woods with a gas mask on, was pretty scary, particularly when you’re thinking about the fact that he went out of his way to print out the page, show all of our faces and put that threat attached to everyone,” he said.
Henry said the organization is working with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as it investigates the incident.
“We are taking this seriously because we see death threats and people being threatened all across the country,” he said. “We didn’t expect for something like this to happen here in Jacksonville, but it has and we just want to make sure that everyone is safe and that we take it seriously.”
Action News Jax reached out to the Duval GOP and they gave us this statement:
“The Duval GOP condemns all forms of political violence. Threats like this have no place in our political discourse. We look forward to law enforcement apprehending this individual and punishing them to the full extent of the law.”
