JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some Jacksonville residents are seeing their trash pickup day change this week.
Garbage collection companies Advanced Disposal Services and Republic Services, doing business as Southland Waste Systems of Jacksonville, changed their current trash pickup schedule, effective Monday.
If you live in the neighborhoods affected by these changes, you should have received a calendar of the new schedule in the mail.

The schedule change is due to rapid community growth, according to the city of Jacksonville.
“In the last fiscal year, the affected ADS area gained about 900 residents, while the affected SWS/Republic area has gained nearly 1,000 residents; this increase requires an additional day of work and an additional route,” a city spokesperson told Action News Jax in an email.
The city’s other contracted waste hauler, Waste Pro USA, changed its pickup schedule in November.
The changes are expected to help drivers with both collection companies comply with the Florida Department of Transportation’s hours of service for drivers. It will also help with residents getting their trash and recycling collected before “dark” hours.
Some households will see changes to both trash and recycling pickup; others will only see changes to their recycling schedule.
“The ADS changes will only affect recycling collection, specifically all of ‘A’ week (this week is an A week) and some of the Monday & Tuesday pickups for B week,” the city spokesperson said. “The SWS/Republic Services adjustments will affect all waste streams – garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk. All residents will experience a change to the collection day.”
The changes will not affect those who live in apartment complexes, multifamily housing neighborhoods, commercial businesses or any other place that doesn’t use residential trash pickup services.
