On Thursday Breeze Airways launched its nonstop flight option to Las Vegas from Jacksonville International Airport.

“We’re really happy to be here in Jacksonville for our inaugural flight to Las Vegas, Nevada,” said Ryne Williams with Breeze Airways. “It’s nonstop, which is such a great option for our guests here in Jacksonville to be able to fly from point A to point B with no stops in between. No need to connect through Atlanta or Charlotte. You’re just going straight to Vegas to have a fun getaway weekend.”

Action News Jax was there as the flight prepared to hit the skies. Flights with Breeze Airways are the only nonstop flights to Las Vegas you can take out of JIA.

Emma Weigel was flying to Las Vegas for her bachelorette trip. She’s getting married in December.

“I will just say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” Weigel said.

The inaugural flight for Breeze Airways left Jacksonville Thursday morning at 9:50 a.m.

Jacksonville International Airport and Breeze Airways hosted a gate party, a champagne christening on the tarmac and a water-cannon salute on departure. Weigel was chosen to take part in the champagne christening.

“It’s amazing,” Weigel said. “It all worked out perfectly. It’s definitely adding to the hype of the trip.”

Breeze began service in May 2021. The flights between Jacksonville and Las Vegas are twice weekly, so you can choose a Thursday or a Sunday.

“With the delays right now, anytime you can avoid it and go direct, it’s great,” passenger Robert Graham said.

The airline touts low fares, with some starting at just $122 one-way, when you book during a certain period of time.

“I know they’re also going direct to New Orleans, which is where my wife is from, so we’re excited about that to get some trips in there as well,” Graham said.

Breeze currently offers service from Jacksonville to four nonstop destinations: Westchester/New York, New York; New Orleans, Louisiana; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Hartford, Connecticut.

“We’re expanding, and I think that really shows how we’re handling some of the things that are going on within the airline industry,” Williams said.
