Early morning shooting on I-95 North turns deadly

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Reports from the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office state that at approximately 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning officers received multiple 911 calls in regards to a shooting.

JSO states that two women between the ages of 25-35 were shot in a drive-by shooting on I-95 North near the Forsyth Street exit.

Investigators state that the women were driving in a black sedan when they were shot at. The vehicles were in motion at the time of the shooting and by the time JSO arrived at the scene, the black Sedan with the two women inside had drifted off to the side of the road against the concrete center median.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported both women to a hospital where they were rushed into surgery. One woman has unfortunately died during surgery. The second woman remains in surgery and is still said to be in critical condition.

At this time, JSO homicide investigators are searching the area for witnesses or any possible surveillance cameras that could have captured what occurred while the vehicles were in motion.

JSO currently has not released the identity of the victim’s and the motive for the shooting is still unknown.
