Action News Jax spoke to a mother around 11:30 a.m. Monday who said that the ‘code red’ has been lifted.
Amanda Willett has two children at Englewood. “My daughter had a stomach ache,” Willett said. “I came up here to get here and see all of these cops up here.”
“My daughter told me they were on ‘code red’, and she didn’t even know what was going on.”
Message to families from Principal Chirino
Hello Englewood High School families,
This is Principal Chirino calling to let you know that all students and staff are safe – again, all students and staff are safe, but our school is on lockdown.
The lockdown was initially called when three individuals hopped our perimeter fence to come on campus. At least two of those individuals are students who appeared to be running from the police and have been apprehended on campus. I do want to share with you that one of those may have been armed, but it is unclear if the firearm was in their possession when they hopped the fence.
The third individual has not been apprehended, and that is why we remain on lockdown. Law enforcement is actively searching for that individual in the surrounding area now, and we will remain on lockdown until we get the all-clear from police. I will update you once the situation is resolved. Thanks for your patience. Again, all students and staff are safe, and I will update you when the situation is resolved.
