ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Families plan to show up to a 9 a.m. commission meeting Tuesday to fight back against the closure of Mickler's Landing.
The public beachfront park and beach access is now closed Monday through Friday through February for a private beach restoration project.
We’ve already seen a dozen families try to pull into Mickler’s this morning. This deputy is telling them it’s closed, to head to Guana or Jax Beach.

Thirteen homeowners have hired a contractor to restore the dunes behind their beachfront homes.
Action News Jax was there Monday as families tried to turn into Mickler's and found a closed sign.
At an Oct. 1 commission meeting, a St. Johns County administrator said the contractor was asking to use 25 percent of the Mickler’s parking lot for the project. That's not what happened.

The county now says in the interest of public safety, they decided the entire park would close during the work.
Action News Jax asked the county how taxpayers benefit from letting the company use the lot for the private project.
