Now the family of Serenity Holland wants answers.
Shawndell Mcgriff is Serentiy’s older sister. And she recalls the last time she spent with Serenity, never imagining it would be their final goodbye.
“I gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek and told her that I loved her,” said Mcgriff.
Just two hours later, Mcgriff said she received a call letting her know Serenity had been in an accident.
Serenity’s mother was driving across the Buckman Bridge with her granddaughter, and Serenity in the backseat when they were hit from behind by another driver.
Serenity suffered from severe brain swelling and had to undergo brain surgery. Two days later she died.
According to the FHP crash report, that driver is 22-year-old Quintarrius Donald. And he was going 95 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
Action News Jax looked through court records and found just 4 days after this crash Donald was sentenced in Leon County and found guilty of driving without a valid license. It’s unclear what his sentence was.
As Mcgriff and her family continue to grieve, they just want justice for Serenity.
“He’s taken a life, a life that was so full, she was so intelligent,” said Mcgriff.
Florida Highway Patrol said this is all still under investigation.
Once the investigation is completed, we will know if the driver will be charged, which is something Serenity’s family said they are hoping for.
