According to family member’s GoFundMe account, the man has been in the ICU for over a week.

Friends and family have created a GoFundMe to help with medical bills.

He has been recently taken off the ventilator.

“Nick has been showing clear signs of alertness while under sedation. They’ve been carefully lowering sedation to keep Nick level and calm enough to eventually be fully un-sedated. Today, doctors have been able to briefly turn off Nick’s sedation and decided he was stable enough to have all tubes removed and officially took him off the ventilator. During the process, they were able to make some progress with Nick by asking him questions to complete simple cognitive skills. Nick was pretty out of it to say the least but is undoubtedly showing remarkable progress. After running MRI scans, results have revealed that due to a blunt injury to the head Nick is suffering a moderate DAI ( Diffuse Axonal Injury) and some damaged neurons in the brain. The extent of the brain damage is unknown at this time. Doctors have reminded us that this will be a marathon and not a sprint but with everything Nick has been through he has already come a long way and is showing positive signs. Please continue to pray for more good news regarding Nick’s recovery! God is soooo good and we are all so thankful for the love and support shown during this time.” - Meagan Robinson, Organizer of Cartwright’s go fund me.
