JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — “We want justice, we need it for Shaina, we need it for her babies,” Shawn Alexander said.
Action News Jax has learned through relatives Armstrong was the 30-year-old mother killed in the West St. Augustine shooting on Wednesday night. Action News Jax has learned she was a mother of two young daughters, with a third child on the way.
Shawn Alexander, the Aunt of Armstrong’s boyfriend, said the suspects were after her nephew. She says Armstrong was behind the wheel when she was shot and killed.
“You can run but you can’t hide and you have to stop this senseless killing, we’re killing each other and it’s not right,” Alexander said. “It’s not right and it’s not fair that this young lady lost her life.”
Now over 24 hours after the deadly shooting, investigators were in the area of Christopher Street and Herbert Street again where the shooting happened. K9-units were walking through the streets and woods.
“It could be used to find any sort of evidence connected to the shooting,” Action News Jax Law & Safety expert Dale Carson said.
Caron said considering Armstrong was pregnant, there could be extreme charges.
“If that in fact is true, obviously there is an additional homicide charge that goes along with that,” Carson said. “The killing of an unborn child is a murder.”
A neighbor who didn’t want to be identified for her safety said she heard the gunshots, and walked outside after the victims car crashed into her fence.
“Just heard a brigade of bullets, gunshots,” she said. “She was lying on the side of the door and he was just devastated.”
Alexander calls this senseless, dangerous violence and hopes something is done to catch whoever killed her nephew’s girlfriend.
“That could’ve been my son, you understand? And like I said there could’ve been a child out here,” Alexander said. “You could’ve hurt somebody else and you have no regard.”
The boyfriends Aunt tells Action News Jax she wants the violence to end immediately.
“I’m praying it’s on their conscience every day, every night and I pray that it eats them up so they can come forth and turn themselves in,” she said.
St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office have said they are interviewing witnesses but didn’t provide further information on a suspect or motive. Action News Jax has followed up with more questions but was told there is no new information at this time.
