When Head was first arrested in November 2015, he was charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect. Shortly after, he was charged with Amari's murder.
When Amari died, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the boy had "severe bruising and lacerations on his buttocks" and "severe bruising on the front and back of his legs, bruising on the left side of his face/ear area and a severe laceration on his head."
The cause of Amari's death was ruled as blunt force trauma. Shortly after the child's death, his mother Nakesa Barnhill took to Facebook, posting, "U ask to be a father and say I withhold him from you and you murder your son! Your a murderer nothing else. I will seek justice for all involved. TRUST."
