JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on I-295 near Merrill Road on Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed.
The motorcycle collided with a tree around 1:30 p.m.

FHP says the rider, a 26-year-old man, lost control of the motorcycle for unknown reasons and traveled onto the grassy shoulder before it went over the on-ramp and into the tree.
The rider died at the scene.
The crash caused delays in the area and drivers were encouraged to seek an alternate route.
