DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Jacksonville-based restaurant Firehouse Subs will now join the company that owns well known fast-food restaurants like Popeyes, Burger King and Tim Hortons.
Restaurant Brands International Inc. announced Monday it has come to an agreement with Firehouse Subs to buy the sandwich restaurant for $1 billion in cash.

The restaurant, known for its hot subs and commitment to public service, was founded in 1994 by brothers and former firefighters Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen.
Don Fox, the CEO of Firehouse Subs, released the following statement:

The transaction is expected to close in the coming months.
