Fleming Island, fla. — A Winn-Dixie in Fleming Island is joining a growing list of Northeast Florida locations on the way out.
Action News Jax confirmed Thursday that the Winn Dixie at 1545 County Road 220 will close its doors Sunday, January 19th for renovations. It will open back up to the public after several months as the area’s newest Aldi.
The grocery chain finalized its acquisition of Southeastern Grocers last year, gaining full ownership of Winn Dixie and Harveys supermarkets.

In a statement to Action News Jax, an Aldi spokesperson said four other Winn-Dixie stores in the Jacksonville area will go through the same process.
- 6060-10 Ft Caroline Road, Jacksonville, FL
- 8775 Old Kings Road South, Jacksonville, FL
- 100 Little Cypress Drive, St. Johns, FL
- 3538 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL
All of them are expected to begin renovations over the next several months.

That means many Winn-Dixie employees will make the transition as well.
“Associates at this location have the opportunity to be the first to apply to newly converted ALDI stores,” said a spokesperson. “In addition, ALDI is committed to doing its best to minimize the impact and provide support and opportunities to associates at converting stores, including the option to remain with Winn-Dixie and transfer to a neighboring store. "
