On Sunday, his family members laid flowers and a cross, marking the spot where he collapsed after being shot.

His sister, Kanisha Dukes, said he was a father to four girls, the oldest in her early teens.

”It breaks them. They need their father,” she said.

Police said they were called to reports of a shooting at Normandy Apartments on Helen Terrance Drive at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

They found Dukes with multiple gunshot wounds. Neighbors tried to give him CPR, but he died at the hospital.

More than 50 evidence markers were left in the apartment complex, in the parking lot in front of an apartment building and in two grassy areas. The leasing office was hit by at least one bullet.

Family told Action News Jax that Duke’s body was found more than 30 yards away, next to a shed. They believe he was running away from the shooter.

“He has children. They just didn’t have to take him like that,” his sister said.

Other family members were too afraid to go on camera with Dukes’ killer still out there.

They said they want the shooter caught.

“He had a lot going on for himself and a lot that he wanted to do with his kids and I don’t know who would want to take his life like this,” a family member said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the JSO nonemergency number at 904-630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers.
