Jacksonville, Fla. — Shari Duval, founder of the Jacksonville veteran nonprofit, K9s for Warriors, has died from cancer at the age of 75.
Duval is known across Northeast Florida for her dedication to ending veteran suicide by rescuing and training shelter dogs to be paired as Service Dogs for Warriors with service-connected Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury and/or Military Sexual Trauma.
Since the nonprofits founding in 2011, K9s for Warriors has become the nation’s largest provider of Service Dogs for disabled American veterans.
The K9s program is 100% free for the veteran, providing each a service canine, equipment, training, certification, seminars, legal instruction, vet care, housing, home cooked meals, unconditional love and listening, and a life-time of wrap-around services.
In an official statement from the organization, “Shari’s significance to our veterans, whom she called her “kids,” cannot be overstated. To our Warriors, she was “Mom,” a place you could always go for help, a hug, and some direct advice. For the K9s For Warriors team, Shari was and is our inspiration.”
Adding, “Every warrior in America has a new guardian angel on their shoulder.”
