During a Cold Front, FPL states that many residents tend to see a spike in their electric bills as home heating uses 2x or 3x the amount of energy that cooling does.

The following tips were provided:

  • Set your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower to save 5%.
  • Avoid raising your thermostat by more than two degrees at a time.
    • Also, prevent accidentally turning on your system’s auxiliary heating, which can add up to $20 per day if used more than 12 hours a day
  • Use electric blankets or space heaters to keep warm.
    • Remember to turn them off before you leave the room and keep children and pets at least three feet away.
  • Reverse the setting on your ceiling fan to push warmer air down.
    • Remember to turn it off when you leave the room to save $7 a month.
  • Seal doors and windows to keep warm air in.
