New rules could be coming to shore-based shark fishing at area beaches.
Right now FWC is asking for input on if changes are necessary.
The agency is considering several options, including restricting where and when people can fish and requiring permits.
It's also considering gear regulations.
Some families tell Action News Jax that they worry the shore-based fishing attracts sharks in areas people swim.

Some proposed changes:
- requiring permits, gear regulations
- banning it from certain beaches
- restricting where/when people can fish for sharks @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/H1e18dVgwS
"Maybe there does need to be in the very public beaches -- maybe some regulations so the fishermen aren’t within a certain zone of a pier or very public beach," Elizabeth Growney said.
Alexis Lynch said she enjoys fishing for sharks from the Jacksonville Beach Pier -- which could be affected by new regulations.
She said she doesn't want to see limitations.
"It shouldn’t attract them. They're already there," she said. "You can't really do anything about that. It’s their home."
FWC said it's not clear if the fishing does attract more sharks.
Some parents at #Jacksonville Beach tell me they’d like to see restrictions on where people can fish for sharks from shore. They’re concerned it draws sharks toward where people swim — but FWC could not confirm that’s the case @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/Hps9vvTIN3

The agency says it's possible that no rules will be put in place.
Right now it's just exploring options and getting feedback from the community.
The agency held a public meeting in Jacksonville Tuesday. If you missed it, you can voice your opinion about the issue by going to its website
