NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — You can say Evelyn Horky is responsible for a growing table of presents piling up inside the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
All of the gifts have one name on them: fallen Deputy Eric Oliver’s 6-year-old daughter Shelby.
“I think it’s just awesome, just awesome, it makes me smile,” Horky said about the gifts coming in.
Horky never met Deputy Oliver, but within hours of his death in the line of duty last Tuesday, she posted on Facebook suggesting the gift drive and word quickly spread.
“I’ve had people from all over, North Carolina, Mississippi, reaching out,” Horky said.
Nassau County Undersheriff George Lueders said the community’s response is phenomenal.
“GoFundMe accounts, stuff for the child, it's overwhelming,” Lueders said.
You can still drop-off gifts at the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office in Yulee.
Deputies say they’ll give the presents to Oliver’s daughter closer to Christmas.
