GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE 6/7/2021:

A routine pizza delivery turned deadly in Brunswick.

The Glynn County Police Department said a pizza delivery driver shot and killed a man who tried to rob him on Saturday night.

Rick Evans, the interim chief of the Glynn County Police Department, said they first received a call about a shooting on Saturday night at 11:23 p.m.

Officers from GCPD, as well as the Brunswick Police Department, responded to a shooting in the area of 3132 Cypress Mill Road.

Evans said the pizza delivery driver told them a man, armed with a knife, tried to rob him outside of an uninhabited trailer.

He said he shot the man in self-defense. Police identified the man who was shot and killed as Jeremy Hicks.

“The call was actually to a different address, and the pizza driver could not find the appropriate address where the pizza was supposed to be delivered to. So therefore, he called the offender via phone, and the offender gave him directions to that trailer,” said Evans.

Evans said Hicks was 37-years-old.

The delivery driver told police he has never met Hicks before the incident Saturday night.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Hicks served 15 years for an armed robbery committed in January of 2003.

He began serving his sentence in December 2004 at Baldwin State Prison.

Hicks was released on June 3 and was on probation.

Police declined to identify the delivery driver, but they did tell Action News Jax that it was a 25-year-old man.

Action News Jax’s Courtney Cole also spoke to the owner of the property where the deadly shooting happened.

“It is very unusual to have somebody killed in your backyard.”

While he wasn’t comfortable going on-camera, he told me he has lived on the property off Cypress Mill Road all his life.

He told Cole what happened was startling, because everything has always been quiet and peaceful.

”All I saw was the body on the ground through the binoculars that I had when the police shine(d) their flashlights,” the property owner explained.

Hicks died on the scene and the victim was unhurt.

GCPD said the investigation is ongoing, but right now they believe the incident was just between the two people involved.

Anyone with any additional information is urged to call police.
