Gov. DeSantis holds news conference in Surfside ahead of potential impacts from Hurricane Elsa

LT. Governor Jeanette Nuñez & Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie will hold a live news conference in Surfside on Saturday.

The death toll remains at 22 while 126 people remain unaccounted for.

Officials are now bracing for potential impacts from Hurricane Irma which is expected to impact parts of Florida as early as Monday.

On Friday, the mayor of Miami-Dade County, Daniella Levine Cava, ordered the remaining portion of Chaplain Towers South be demolished due to fears that the damaged structure could crumble further and once interrupt search efforts.

The Associated Press reported Saturday a top Miami-Dade fire official told family members of people still missing in the rubble that demolition workers planned to bring down the remainder of the building on Sunday, July 4.
