Here’s where your child can get a COVID-19 vaccine in the Jacksonville-area

Jacksonville, Fla. — As of this week, Pfizer’s Coronavirus vaccine is now authorized for use in children as young as 12.

The authorization by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) expands the pool of eligible recipients to roughly 87% of the total U.S. population.

Pfizer is the first vaccine to gain authorization for younger Americans after it demonstrated in a March clinical trial that it was 100% effective in preventing COVID-19 in study participants who were ages 12 to 15 [1].

“CDC now recommends that this vaccine be used among this population, and providers may begin vaccinating them right away,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a statement.

Currently, both the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are only authorized for people over the age of 18, so those younger must go to a site that provides Pfizer shots.

Here is an up-to-date list of Jacksonville-area locations now offering the Pfizer vaccine to kids 12 and up:

Walgreens

Walgreens said a parent or legal guardian must complete registration for minors under the age of 13.

A parent or guardian must be present at appointments.

CVS

Walmart and Sam’s Club

Walmart pharmacies nationwide will start vaccinating adolescents with the authorized Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine beginning Thursday, May 13.
