FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — They put out fires, save lives, and property. They even occasionally rescue cats from treetops. Some firefighters in Fernandina Beach went way above and beyond and replaced some property to had to destroy while rescuing a child.

When a boy’s foot got pinned between the spokes and frame of his bicycle Wednesday night, it was Fernandina Beach Fire Department to the rescue. They had to cut the spokes to free his foot.
“Once their patient was safely freed, these amazing firefighters took it upon themselves to purchase a new bike and helmet, and surprise him at the hospital with it,” the fire department posted on its Facebook page. “This reminds us of what the holidays are truly about.”

The Facebook post lifted the spirits of many who were also reminded of the good being done here.
